Mission and Values
We are dedicated to improving and enriching the lives of every child who comes through our doors, all the while guided by important values and principles.
The High School of Glasgow, founded as the Choir School, the ‘Sang School’ of Glasgow Cathedral in the 12th century, was born with the then higher purpose of teaching young boys to read and to sing in praise of God.
Today, the School continues to uphold and constantly develop its higher purpose of being an inspiring independent, all through, co-educational institution of learning.
Our School motto, Sursum Semper, which translates as “ever upwards”, encapsulates our constant and unwavering commitment to improving and enriching the lives of every child who walks through our doors.
We ignite the potential within every young person, helping them to enjoy enriched lives, make a positive difference within their communities and shape the wider world.
Our mission is to be the school of choice in the City of Glasgow and the West of Scotland; a beacon of learning where the all-round capacities of young people are nurtured, challenged and realised within an inclusive and caring environment of mutual respect, positive relationships and obligations.
We are an academic institution of learning, constantly in pursuit of excellence and all-round personal development. These ambitions are secured through high quality teaching and learning, rich and wide-ranging opportunities, first-class resources and a nurturing and supportive ethos that draws upon our outstanding heritage.
