Commemoration and Thanksgiving 2021

Commemoration and Thanksgiving 2021

With restrictions still in place, the 2021 Commemoration and Thanksgiving Service was a more limited affair this year, with only our Captains' Committee, Brass Ensemble, members of the SLT and a small number of guests in attendance. The School community were invited this year to watch the ceremony live online.

Reverend Mark Johnstone, Minister to Glasgow Cathedral and School Chaplain. presided over the service, welcoming welcomed those in attendance, both physical and virtual, before we heard from the Rector, Mr John O'Neill, and School Captains for Session 2021-22, Lucy Sillars and Maxwell Wang, who discussed the School's illustrious history and links to Glasgow Cathedral.

Catriona and Libby of Sixth Year performed Marta Keen's 'Homeward Bound' with accompaniment from Head of Music, Mrs Sarah Stuart, while former pupil, Fergus Inns (Class of 2021) was kind enough to act as our organist throughout the ceremony.

Readings were delivered by Mr Eric Hugh, President of the Glasgow High School Former Pupils Club, and Mrs Margaret Pollock, Deputy Head Teacher of the Junior School, while Mrs Heather Fuller, Head Teacher of the Junior School read a prayer of thanksgiving. The Address was delivered this year by Reverend John Purves of Drumchapel St Andrew's Church.
