Oban Duncan of Second Year was crowned Royal Yachting Association Scotland Young Person of the Year award at a ceremony in January, the youngest person ever to do so in the history of the RYA awards.

In a successful year for Oban, she won the British Sprint Championships in her first year of racing GT15 boats, finished second in the national finals and won the RYA Honda Rib Championships.

Following this success, Oban was nominated for three awards at the RYA ceremony, which took place at Kip Marina, Inverkip on Saturday 19th January. She became the only person ever to achieve such a feat, having been nominated for 'The Elizabeth McKay Award for Female Endeavours', 'Performance of the Year' and 'Young Person of the Year', winning the latter. Alex Sivarajan of Second Year was also nominated for 'Academy Sailor of the Year.'

Oban continues to race and has qualified for the European GT15 Championships in Germany in July and the World GT15 Championships in Latvia this September.
