HSOG Victorious at Inaugural Short Tennis Competition

A team of HSOG First Year and Transitus pupils won the inaugural Short Tennis Event for secondary school pupils at the Emirates Arena on Tuesday 11th June.

Hosted by Tennis Scotland, the competition is the first of its kind, aiming to introduce younger participants to short court tennis using foam balls and shorter playing areas to allow the next generation of Andy Murrays and Johanna Kontas a more inclusive introduction to the sport.

The High School entered two teams in the competition which saw more than 120 pupils from 11 secondary schools across the country competing. While the all-Transitus 'B' team of Evie Bulloch, Cameron Davies, Lucy Howie, Jack Leslie, Jack MacLeod, Erin Morgan, Hazel Murison and Max Sangster competed well to reach the Plate competition semi final, it was the 'A' team who were to bring home the trophy.

The 'A' Team - Eleanor Cochran (Captain), Bonnie Campbell, Georgia Rose (all S1), Shoren Das, Mustafa Fahd, Sandy Fraser and Ritvik Gajree (all Transitus) - won their section via victories over St Mungo's Academy and Firhill High School, and a draw with Boroughmuir High School. Wins against James Gillespie's High School in the semi final and Hyndland Secondary School in the final saw the team crowned as the first ever champions of the Short Tennis Competition.

They are already looking forward to defending the title next year!
