HSOG Athletes On Track For Success!

Schools' athletics season is well under way with recent success at Glasgow and Scottish Schools' events and numerous competitions continuing to take place throughout the summer term, including the High School's own Sports Day events at Old Anniesland over the next week.

Scottish Schools’ Individual & Relay Championships

Four national Gold medals were won at the Scottish Schools’ Individual Championships on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th June at Grangemouth. They were won by:

  • Alice Baxendale (S6) - O17 Shot Put and O17 Discus
  • Anna Cameron (S6) - O17 Long Jump
  • Fergus Currie (S2) - U14 1500m (setting a new Championship Record)

Lucy Gardner (S5) won Silver in the U17 Discus event, while Anna Cameron added to her long jump success with a Bronze medal in the O17 100m.


The O17 Girls' Relay team won Gold in the Scottish Schools' Relay Championships at Hutchesons' Grammar School on Friday 31st May. 

The winning team were Alice Baxendale, Anna Cameron, Lucy Williamson (all S6) and Cosima Schwahn (S5).

Glasgow Primary Schools Heats

A number of Transitus and Junior School pupils won medals at the Glasgow Primary Schools' Heats on Monday 3rd June, resulting in qualification for tomorrow's 'finals night' at Scotstoun.

The success of the Junior 6 and Transitus girls also meant that they were crowned overall winners of the heat. The medal winners were:


  • Beth Campbell - P6 Standing Long Jump
  • Freya Easson - P6 Cricket Ball Throw
  • P6 Girls' Relay Team Jenni Burnett, Beth Campbell, Yasmin Lamb, Olivia McKnight, Eva Stirling


  • Haris Ali - P7 Standing Long Jump
  • James Clark - P7 100m
  • Cameron Davies - P7 Cricket Ball Throw


  • Amy Campbell P7 Standing Long Jump

Courtesy of their performance in the heats, the following also qualified to compete at finals night: Harrison Bruce (P7 600m), Evie Bulloch (P7 Cricket Ball Throw), Hannah McDonald (P7 100m), Libby McFadyen (P7 600m), P7 Girls' Relay TeamNicola Dry (P6 600m) and Yasmin Lamb (P6 80m).
