West District Indoor Tournament

A number of the girls involved in the 1st XI’s BP Cup success came close to making it a double as they finished as runners up in the West District Indoor Tournament on Saturday 8th December.

The girls won two of their three section matches (4-0 vs Lomond School; 3-1 against Hutchesons' Grammar School) and lost 2-1 to St Aloysius’ College. Having won the section, they then defeated Kelvinside Academy to reach the final.

Despite having a number of chances against The Glasgow Academy in the final, the game remained goalless. The teams were still tied at 2-2 after three running penalties. Unfortunately, the HSOG team lost on sudden death penalties, taking home silver medals.

The team were:

Kiera Smith (Captain)
Rachel Bannatyne
Eve Downie
Daya Panesar
Sarah Turnbull
Lucy Williamson (all S6)

Georgia Crooks
Mhairi Crooks
Catriona James
Anna Pover
Charlotte Simmers
(all S5)

Christina Miller (S4)

Glasgow Thunder Development Team

Six girls from the side who were victorious in the BP Cup final and runners up at the West District Indoor Tournament were selected to represent to represent the Glasgow Thunder U18 Development team in a new 'Super Series' event at the National Hockey Centre, Glasgow Green, in late November/early December.

The development series has been designed to showcase emerging talent from across Scotland, competing for one of three regions in a contest mirroring the Super Series matches which featured Scottish International and current HSOG teacher of Physical Education, Miss Becky Ward.

Eve Downie, Kiera Smith, Lucy Williamson (all S6), Georgia Crooks, Mhairi Crooks and Charlotte Simmers (all S5) (who all represent GHK Hockey Club) represented the Glasgow side in matches against Edinburgh Lightning and Dundee Devils, helping the home team win the inaugural U18 Super Series Development trophy.

Scottish Hockey Player of the Year Nominations

Georgia Crooks and Charlotte Simmers (both S5) were nominated on a shortlist of five players by Scottish Hockey as their U16 Girls' Player of the Year for 2018.

PE Teacher Miss Becky Ward was also nominated on a shortlist of three for the Scottish Hockey Womens' Player of the Year after starring for the Scottish team at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games earlier in the year.

Despite not winning the overall awards, Miss Ward, Georgia and Charlotte all had an enjoyable evening attending the Scottish Hockey Awards Gala in early December at Caledonian University.
