A number of High School pupils have continued where they left of on the sporting front from last session, with national and regional representation, as well as multiple medals won at national competitions. Some updates from the sporting department over the last few weeks can be seen below.

Alice Baxendale and Lucy Willamson (both S6) represented Scotland at the 2018 Schools' Games at the beginning of the 2018-19 session. Lucy took part in four matches for the Scottish hockey side, while Alice won a Silver medal in the Girls' Discus event with an impressive throw of 37.99m.

Alice was also successful at the Scottish FPSG Age Group Championships in Aberdeen in mid-August, winning Gold in the U20 and U17 Girls' Discus events. Meanwhile, Anya MacLean (S3) and Fergus Currie (S2) won Silver medals in the U15 Girls' and U13 Boys' 1500m events, respectively.

Anya, competing for Garscube Harriers Running Club, also won the Scottish Mid Trail Race Championships U15 Girls’ race in Fife in early September, and was successful in a selection day for the Scottish Triathlon Academy squad. She represented Scotland at the Inter Regional Championships on Saturday 15th September along with younger sister Coryn (S1) and Fergus Currie. Anya won a Silver medal in the Tristar 3 (female) event, Fergus was 6th in the Tristar 3 (male) event and Coryn was 12th in the Tristar 2 (female) event, all contributing towards Scotland being crowned British Triathlon Inter-Regional champions.

Away from the athletics track and onto the karting track, Angus Moulsdale of Fourth Year had a successful time at the German ADAC Kartmasters Senior X30 event in Wackersdorf in early September, winning both finals over a weekend of racing. Angus put in the hard yards on the Saturday, finishing third in qualifying, before second and first place finishes in the initial heats, leaving him in a good position for Sunday's finals. The following day, Angus competed in two finals – the first final saw him win by over five seconds, while the second final was another controlled display which saw him once again prevail over the rest of the field.

Closer to home, hockey stars Lucy Williamson (S6), Georgia Crooks and Charlotte Simmers (both S5) represented Scotland U17 in the 2018 Futures Cup as part of the Bronze medal winning Caledonian Cougars side. Meanwhile, Zara Kennedy, Jessica Mitchell, Iona Reid and Lucy Sillars (all S3) represented the Scottish U15 team who finished fifth overall.

In rugby, six Fourth Year pupils represented Glasgow and the West in the Fosroc Academy Regional Championships at Murrayfield on Sunday 12th August. Michael Alba, Matthew Cairns, Marlowe Crick, Sam Haldane, Charlie Kennedy and Ryan Street were part of the U16 team who won their 3rd/4th Place playoff match 12-5 against The Borders & East Lothian, with Charlie Kennedy scoring the crucial second try.

On the tennis courts, Claudie Quinn (S5) was part of the Ball Team at the Davis Cup match between Great Britain and Uzbekistan at the Emirates Arena this weekend, while Findlay Pratt (Transitus), who was recently invited to participate in the LTA Tennis Scotland regional development program, took part in a friendly tournament coinciding with the UK Davis Cup match in Glasgow.
