High School Stars Make a Racket!

High School pupils have achieved national success on the badminton court over the past fortnight.

At the Scottish Schools Championships in Perth on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th March, Rachel Sugden (S5) won the U19 Girls' Singles competition, and was runner up in the U19 Mixed Doubles event with partner Guan-An Chen (S6). Guan-An won a Silver medal in the U19 Boys' Singles consolation tournament, while Rachel and Sanaa Suvarna (S5) were losing semi finalists in the U19 Girls' Doubles competition.

Ten days later, a number of pupils participated headed back to Perth to compete at the SSBU Gibb Memorial Secondary Quaich, rearranged from the previous month. Although not quite as successful this time around, the two competing High School sides still performed well.

The U19 team of Guan-An Chen, Jessica Mendonca-Gray, William Xu (all S6), Emily Sillars, Sanaa Suvarna, Thomas Whitelaw (all S5), Bharath Mukunda Das (S4) and Lucy Sillars (S2) were losing finalists in the consolation tournament, while the U14 team of Ellie Adair, Angelina Antomarlin, Annabel Davies, Isabella Faulds-Rae, Kenny McClymont, Maxwell Wang (all S2), Godfrey Antomarlin and Akshat Gupta (both S1) were losing semi-finalists, finishing in fourth position overall.
