The High School were represented in both the boys' and girls' competitions at yesterday's Scottish Team Tennis Championships, taking place at a gloriously sunny St George’ School in Edinburgh.
Both teams had come through numerous rounds throughout the spring, culminating in the Senior Boys - Matthew Gibson-Smith, Thomas Whitelaw, Mark Ward (all S5) and Conor McGrath-Williams (S4) - and Senior Girls - Cate Sibbald (S5), Claudie Quinn (S4), Charlotte Sim and Julia Smith (both S3), joining six other Scottish sides at national finals day.
The morning was a complete success, with the boys beating Robert Gordon’s College of Aberdeen and the girls defeating locals Edinburgh Academy in a tense tie-break, meaning the High School would have two shots at national team tennis success.
Unfortunately, both teams had to settle for ending the day as runners-up in their respective competitions, with the boys falling to Merchiston Castle School in their final and the girls losing out against George Watson’s College.
