Girls' Hockey 1st XI Retain BP Cup

14 December 2018 | Tagged: Hockey

The Girls' Hockey 1st XI completed a whirlwind couple of days for High School sport as they retained the BP Cup with a dramatic victory over The Glasgow Academy at Glasgow Green on Thursday 6th December.

Earlier in the term, the girls had won their section, before defeating Jordanhill School in the semi final, taking them to a final clash with The Glasgow Academy. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday 4th December, but fell victim to a frozen pitch. Fortunately, the two teams were able to reconvene two days later under the floodlights to compete for the trophy.

The teams could not be separated in normal time, with goals from Mhairi Crooks and Anna Pover (both S5) enough to earn a 2-2 draw in an exciting match. Even in the running penalty competition, both sides were evenly matched, as the scoreboard read 3-3, taking it to sudden death. Eventually, on the third sudden death penalty, goalkeeper Daya Panesar (S6) pulled off a save, allowing Charlotte Simmers (S5) to step up and score the penalty that saw the HSOG 1st XI retain the BP Cup.

The successful 1st XI team were:

Lucy Williamson (Captain)
Eve Downie (Vice Captain)
Rachel Bannatyne
Catriona James
Daya Panesar
Cate Sibbald
Kiera Smith
Sarah Turnbull (all S6)

Georgia Crooks
Mhairi Crooks
Yemisi Edgar
Anna Pover
Charlotte Simmers (all S5)

Alex Jones
Christina Miller (both S4)
