Brilliant Boating!

5 October 2017 | Tagged: Powerboating

First Year pupil Oban Duncan competed for Scotland and iPowerboat in the 16th annual RYA Honda RIB Championships at the Southampton Boat Show last month.

The Championships sees competitors up to sixteen years of age participating in Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIB), light manoeuverable crafts that can hit up to 25mph! The intention is to introduce children to powerboats, allowing them to demonstrate their skills at the helm, training them to be safe, proficient drivers and excellent boat handlers.

Oban, the 2015 and 2017 RYA Scotland Regional RYA Honda RIB Challenge champion, set the pace in the U12 category, with her time going unbeaten throughout a large portion of the day. Unfortunately, one competitor was able to overhaul her time, meaning Oban finished in second place overall.

She had qualified for these national championships courtesy of winning the Scottish Area Final for Age 8-12 at Port Edgar Watersports, South Queensferry, in June this year.
