Skiing Victories

14 December 2016 | Tagged: Skiing

S4 pupil Helena Gronski achieved some excellent victories in skiing events earlier this term.

Helena participates in British Nordic Skiing, the sport of cross country and roller skiing, and is part of the British Nordic Development Squad, the squad for more junior skiers who are not yet of the physical maturity or technical ability to compete at a more senior level.

Helena competed in Norway, Germany and Sweden throughout the 2015/2016 winter session and, after a summer of hard training, was victorious at a London Regional Nordic event at the beginning of October. At London's Olympic Park, she overcame racers from all over the UK to win the half hour classic-style race in the 14-17 years age group. Later that month, again in London, she competed in a slightly more gruelling four hour race! Once again, Helena was able to oust her opponents, winning the 14-17 years age group competition, having covered over 50 kilometres!

Helena's next ventures with the BNDS will see her attend a training and race camp in Norway in mid-December.
