A hat-trick of High School girls were recently called up to face England in an Independent Schools football match.

S3 pupils Georgia Crooks, Mhairi Crooks and Yemisi Edgar were all selected for the Scottish Independent Schools Football Association (SISFA) U16 squad. Georgia and Mhairi previously represented the SISFA side in last year's match against England, whilst all three girls were part of the High School Sevens sides who won the SISFA U18 and U15 titles last session.

They faced the Auld Enemy at St George's Park National Football Centre on the 14th December. Despite leading at half time, the Scottish side was pegged back and eventually fell to a 3-1 defeat. Nevertheless, this was a great experience for the girls.

Anna Fleming (S5) competed at the Scottish National Short Course Championships in Edinburgh between 9th-11th December, winning six national junior titles (50m, 100m and
200m Freestyle, 100m and 200m Individual Medley and 50m Butterfly) and breaking the Scottish National Short Course junior record for the 50m Freestyle with her time of 25.61 seconds.

Anna was also one of only five girls selected by Scottish Swimming to travel with the Junior British team to the Ontario Junior International Competition in Canada later in December
and has been invited to attend the Geneva International Meet in January.

Eight rowers competed at the 2016 British Rowing Indoor Championships at Lee Valley VeloPark in London in mid-December. Both the S4 Boys’ and S6 Girls’ teams showed great commitment, with the boys - Angus Barrett, Ross Flanagan, Ben Taylor and Thomas Whitelaw - finishing a respectable 10th in a field containing mainly older teams. The girls’ team of Abi Campbell, Lauren Durnin, Mirrin Gillespie and Stephanie Wood went one better on last year, competing excellently to finish in 4th position, covering a school record distance.

Rachel Sugden (S4) recently won both the Girls' Singles and Doubles competitions at the U17 East of Scotland Championship, the U17 Singles title at a Gold Star event in Milton Keynes and the West Dunbartonshire Junior Sports Personality of the Year! She will be taking part in tournaments throughout Europe next year, starting with a competition in Sweden at the end of January.

Sandy Greig (S4) was one of 50 players from around the country selected to be a part of the Scotland U16 Development Squad. Sandy will take part in five training camps from January to March in the lead up to potential selection for the Scotland age grade side competing at the Four Nations Tournament in Wales in March 2017.

Synchronised Swimming

Gabriella Smart (S2) finished 1st in Scotland and 2nd in the UK in the Duet event at the National Synchronised Swimming Championships. Fellow S2 pupils Tabitha Steven and Lana Wallace finished 2nd in Scotland in the Competitive Team and Recreational Team events, respectfully. Tabitha was also selected to compete with Synchro Caledonia at the 2016 ASA National Age Group Synchronised Swimming Championships in early December.

Cross Country

Alex Jones (S2) and Anya MacLean (S1) represented Garscube Running Club at the British Cross Country Finals in Liverpool in late November.

The Girls 1st XI put on an excellent display to defeat Peebles High School 8-1 in the Scottish Plate quarter final on Monday 12th December. They go on to compete in the semi final early next year.
