HSOG Chef Advances to Scottish Finals

24 January 2019 | Tagged: Senior School

Following on from victory at the Glasgow Heat of the Rotary Young Chef Competition earlier this month, Amy Ashton of Second Year finished as runner up in yesterday's District Final at South Lanarkshire College in East Kilbride.

Amy once again cooked the menu that impressed judges enough to win the Glasgow Heat:

  • a starter of asparagus soup
  • a main course of chicken wrapped in prosciutto, stuffed with homemade pesto, served with crushed potatoes and a red pepper sauce
  • a dessert of chocolate fondants served with a raspberry gel

The judges deliberated for a long time as there was no clear cut winner and the standard was very high all round. Amy was eventually announced as runner up to a pupil from Lochaber High School, earning an engraved salver, cook book, framed certificate and a bag of local cheese and meat produce!

More importantly, Amy also now progresses to the Scottish and North East of England Finals which takes place on Saturday 2nd March, once again at South Lanarkshire College.
