Health and Wellbeing Centre

An Introduction to our Health and Wellbeing Centre, opened in 2017 at our Senior School in Anniesland.

The Health and Wellbeing Centre offers a calm and safe place right in the heart of busy school life.

This fabulous new addition to The High School was opened in the Autumn Term of 2017 and instantly transformed the provision of medical care in purpose built facilities to the benefit of all users.

The Centre comprises a number of separate rooms where pupils and staff can receive the privacy and confidentiality required for consultations.

The Centre is divided into three main areas:

  • The Medical Room
  • The Waiting Room
  • The Wellbeing Room

The space was cleverly designed to make the best use of the room. The main Medical Room consists of a consulting area, a treatment area, a quiet room and a large wet room and toilet.

Medical Room

The room provides:

  • Support for pupils and staff with diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, severe allergies and other medical conditions
  • Treatment for everyday physical ailments
  • Treatment for minor injuries
  • First aid for sports injuries with access from the hockey and rugby pitches
  • Blood pressure and weight checks
  • Health promotion information and advice.

Waiting Room

One of the many advantages of the new Centre was the creation of a Waiting Room. This provides:

  • A place to wait to be seen while other pupils have a confidential consultation in the medical room.
  • Health promotion and information leaflets.

Wellbeing Room

The Wellbeing Room has been a significant addition to the space for Health and Wellbeing in the Senior School and has proved very popular with pupils, whether simply needing some privacy or having a conversation with Mrs Sim or a member of staff about something that is concerning them.

  • A private space to come to during the school day when pupils or staff need time out
  • A relaxing environment for Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Intervention sessions which are available to both pupils and staff to support and help them at times of adversity
  • The Seasons for Growth Programme runs annually and offers small groups of pupils the opportunity to look at changes they have experienced in their life. It provides them with a better understanding of their feelings, how to recognise and manage them and gives them tools to make the right choices. It also equips them with coping strategies which they can implement when times are difficult. The programme runs over 8 weeks and involves a variety of group activities and discussions.

We are extremely fortunate to have our own School Nurse, Mrs Jane Sim, who works from 8:30am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.

She can be contacted through the school switchboard or by email at: medicalroom@hsog.co.uk

Please inform Mrs Sim of any changes to your child’s health records, health concerns, illnesses or injuries.
