Facilities

Aerial image of the Senior School, with the Jimmie Ireland Stand and sports pitches in the foreground

Our Senior School is based amongst 20 acres of exceptional on-site playing fields in Anniesland, a stone's throw from Glasgow’s vibrant West End.

Our purpose-built Senior School is a constantly evolving educational establishment, continually modernising in order to meet the needs and demands of our pupils and staff.

The two storey Senior School facility spans the width of our large campus, which includes more than 20 acres of playing fields. Our buildings are interconnected by a number of light filled corridors and courtyards, ensuring that our pupils spend their days learning in a bright and uplifting environment.

Multiple extensions to the original building have included the addition of a two-storey Science Wing in 2008 and the creation of a dedicated and state-of-the-art Health and Wellbeing Centre, opened in 2017. The Science Wing was expanded once again to include a third floor and the creation of four extra classrooms housing Geography and Modern Studies, a department base and a flexible learning area. It was renamed 'The John Shaw Science Wing', in recognition of the highly generous £1.5m capital project donation from former pupil, John Shaw, with construction completed during the 2021-22 session.

...

Our Senior pupils are privileged in being able take part in all sporting activities within our two large multi-purpose indoor gym halls and on our expansive on-site playing fields.

Owned by the Glasgow High School Club, our grounds house five full-sized floodlit rugby pitches and two state of the art sand and water-based hockey pitches that convert into twelve tennis courts during the summer months. Our pitches are used for cricket matches and athletics meets during the summer, with sandpits and other areas used for field events.

The 1,000 seater Jimmie Ireland Stand sits adjacent to our playing fields, featuring panoramic views across our grounds. Inside, our popular refectory area provides pupils and staff with hot and cold lunches each and every day.

...

Our exceptional library is the heart of the Senior School.

Hosting a wide range of more than 12,000 books and giving pupils access to plenty more through our eBook app, SORA, our spacious, light-filled library also provides pupils with a serene study space and access to 25 computers from which they can work from.

Transport

Every day, around 700 pupils travel from all over Glasgow and its surrounding areas to attend our Senior School.

Close to local transport links and amenities, the school is easily accessible by train and bus, with ample on-site parking for safely dropping off and collecting your child.

The recently renovated Drama Department sees our aspiring thespians take to the stage in a 200-seat studio with professional lighting and sound equipment, a sound and light mixer box and a fully stocked costume and make up store, while the light-filled, double storey Art Department opens out on to an external courtyard, providing our 'potential Picassos' with a warm and creative space in which to develop their talents.

Our Music and Drama departments make full use of our large Assembly Hall for annual Junior and Senior productions, while our biannual Art and Design Exhibition invites High School families to take in the work of our talented pupils in our Assembly Hall space. Our Lecture Theatre, which can seat up to 150 individuals, plays host to debating competitions and weekly guest speakers.

Our ever expanding Science Department currently includes Biology, Chemistry and Physics classrooms, a number of laboratories (including a dedicated lab for Sixth Year scientists) and a greenhouse, while our popular Health and Food Technology Department contains a recently renovated learning space that houses 18 dedicated workstations, each with its own electric oven, gas hob, sink and worktop food prep space.
