Young Musicians of the Year 2021

The High School of Glasgow Young Musicians of the Year competition took on a slightly different form for 2021.

Taking place on Monday 14th June with no audience allowed to be in attendance, our talented young musicians instead performed for the cameras!

The two external adjudicators for the evening were Ken Walton, classical music critic for the Scotsman and co-founder of the classical music website Voxcarnx, and Nadine Livingston, Scottish soprano and former pupil of the School, who began her career in opera as an Emerging Artist with Scottish Opera and has sang in a number of operatic roles with Scottish Opera and Covent Garden, London.

Our adjudicators were treated to performances from the four instrumentalist finalists: Fergus Inns (piano), Adam Insall (oboe) (both S6), Helena Downie (violin) and Danny Petrie (marimba) (both S5); and four vocalist finalists: Amy HigginsChristina Miller (both S6), Annabel Davies and Aarya Gambhir (both S5), with performers accompanied by Miss Gillian Daly.

During the adjudicators' deliberations there were two further performances from the winners of the Rising Stars performing platformMaya Marshall (voice) (S1) and Theo Stalin (saxophone) (Transitus).

Congratulations to all the performers on a wonderful evening of live music-making of the highest standard!
