Leavers’ Course

1 June 2020

With our 2020 Summer Term taking place away from Old Anniesland, we wanted to make sure our Sixth Year pupils still received the traditional Leavers’ Course.

Adapting to life during #HSOGHome, our Sixth Year team and pupils made sure they made the most of technology and created interesting talks, activities and challenges.

Connecting via a Facebook Group, the 100 pupils and teachers spent their final month in HSOG hearing from speakers, learning vital life skills and getting prepared for university life.

Speakers have included the astrologist Dr Sheila Kanani, a mixture of a Former pupils who are current 1st Year university students, SAAS advisors, and a mixture of current teachers.

Pupils have been challenged with weekly taskmaster challenges hosted by Senior Depute Rector Mr Kenneth Robertson, have competed in team Zoom quizzes and enjoyed Zoom cooking lessons from HFT teachers.

Weekly Zoom Yoga has also been a hit with teachers and pupils, who during lockdown may be finding the thought of transitioning from School to University difficult. Mrs Sim, our school nurse, has also been on hand to answer questions and help any pupils who are struggling.

The year group are making sure they don’t miss out on their final Sports Day and Senior Dance and are helping come up with ideas to bring these events to life virtually.

It may not be exactly how we wanted to say goodbye to our Sixth Year Pupils but we are proud of their engagement and attitude during this difficult time.
