Senior School Health and Wellbeing Week

Treating the Body and the Mind

The Senior School community have once again immersed themselves in another successful Health and Wellbeing Week.

Led by School nurse, Mrs Jane Sim, and Health and Wellbeing Representatives, Hannah Ferguson and Jack Lord, pupils and staff enjoyed a week filled with activities that promoted the vital importance of physical and emotional wellbeing.

As ever, one of the highlights of the week was the 'Walk of Champions' Firewalk, with 63 S6 pupils and members of staff facing their fears by strolling barefoot over burning hot coals! (You can see more from the Firewalk on the School Twitter feed)

Pupils relished the chance to meet the dogs (and volunteers!) of Canine Concern Scotland's Therapet service, while creative flair was on display in the Art department with Mindfulness Art sessions and a Valentine's card workshop.

Some nourished their bodies with (at least!) one of their five fruit and veg a day by creating smoothies in the Health and Food Technology department, while others chose to take part in energetic zumba exercise classes in the PE department.

Guests at morning assemblies throughout the week inspired and challenged our pupils. Tuesday's assembly saw Commonwealth Games medal winning cyclist Charline Jones discus her sporting career, while current parent and founder of the Finding Your Feet charity, Corinne Hutton, talked about the incredible challenges she has overcome in her life on Wednesday. Mental Health Nurse and Royal College of Nursing activist, Stuart McKenzie, celebrated nursing on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale on Thursday, with comedian Stephen Halkett bringing a week of uplifting assemblies to an end on Friday, proving that laughter truly is the best medicine!

Next up...the Junior School!

Pupils at Ledcameroch Road will be following in the Senior Schools's footsteps by hosting their own Health and Wellbeing Week during the penultimate week of the Spring term.

The fun begins on Monday 23rd March!
