Mr Ford for Christmas No.1?

4 December 2020 | Tagged: Senior School, School Community, Music

It has been a very interesting week for The High Schools's very own English teacher and part-time festive hit-maker, Mr Phil Ford!

Not content with leading Bannerman's House Fundraising Week, Mr Ford and fellow teacher, Tim Kwant of Knightswood Secondary School, better known as 'Lapwing', have watched as their Christmas song "Hope Christmas Gets You To Me" has become a viral hit!

The song was written by Phil and Tim mere weeks ago, addressing the situation we all face this Christmas in the wake of the current COVID pandemic. They even enlisted friends and family to help with the socially distanced filming of the video in a deserted Glasgow city centre at 4:00am!

The song was released earlier this week, quickly gaining tens of thousands of views on Facebook and Youtube, and propelling Phil into the limelight! The story was featured on Glasgow Live, while numerous radio stations have began to start playing the Christmas hit.

Lapwing even have a very special fan in Radio 2 DJ Graham Norton who tweeted about how much he liked the song and his hope that it could be played on his show tomorrow! Make sure to tune in!

Taking a break from his numerous radio interviews, Mr Ford said he was

"...simply overwhelmed and just hugely grateful to all those who have enjoyed and engaged with the song."

He expressed his gratitude for all those who have chosen to listen to or download the song and hoped that the optimistic message of the song came across to all those who have listened, providing hope at a difficult time for so many.

You can find out more about the band or download the song by visiting Lapwing's Twitter page.

After a whirlwind week, Mr Ford is now taking the time to catch up on a slightly less glamorous task - writing his school reports!
