Commemoration and Thanksgiving Service 2019

Senior and Junior School pupils, alongside staff, parents and friends of the High School, gathered at Glasgow Cathedral on Thursday to celebrate the history of the School at the annual Commemoration and Thanksgiving Service, a fitting send-off for the High School community before the September holiday weekend.

Rev Mark Johnstone, Minister to Glasgow Cathedral. presided over his first High School Commemoration Service. He warmly welcomed the congregation, before those in attendance heard from the Rector, Mr John O'Neill, and School Captains for Session 2019-20, Pippa Meek and Bharath Mukunda Das, who discussed The High School's links to Glasgow Cathedral and its illustrious history.

Mr Craig Macdonald, President of the Glasgow High School Club and Mr Philip Graham, Deputy Rector of the Senior School, delivered readings, while Director of Development, Mrs Karen McDonald, read a prayer of thanksgiving.

The Junior Choir performed Marta Keen's 'Homeward Bound' followed, directed by Mrs Jane Tierney, and accompanied by Ms Gillian Daly, with Fergus Inns of Fifth Year acting as organist throughout the ceremony.

This year's main Address was delivered by the recently retired Rev Campbell Mackinnon of Balshagray Victoria Park Church, who spoke of opening oneself up to new experiences and the importance of looking out for one another.
