Poppyscotland Film Stars

A team of Second Year High School filmmakers have won Poppyscotland's 'BREAKING NEWS: WAR IS OVER' learning competition.

Split into primary and secondary school categories, the competition tasked pupils from P4 to S3 to create a video presenting how they would report the end of the First World War if it happened today. Industry experts then selected three entries for each category to go to a popular vote, with the High School occupying not just one, but two places in the secondary school category.

With over 4,300 votes cast, the team of Amy Ashton, Elisha Bali, Sophie Kemsley, Maria Murio-Fernandez and Kirstie Souter, were crowned winners of the competition. Their winning entry can be enjoyed below.

As part of their prize, the girls will get the chance to visit the STV News' studios getting to see behind the scenes of the national news broadcaster.

HSOG History teacher, Ms Gemma Lindsay, said:

I am extremely proud of the pupils for engaging so creatively with the Poppyscotland Learning Competition. The enthusiasm of both Poppyscotland and the pupils has been really inspiring and helps to continue to raise awareness of the crucial work that Poppyscotland does with veterans and their families.

The other team of High School finalists in the secondary competition - Amy Liu, Emily Makridis, Elizabeth Perrett and Leena Saleem - won £50 of Amazon vouchers for their film, which you can watch here.
