Junior Drama Production - 'Holes'

The Junior Drama Production of 'Holes' entertained audiences over a three-night run last week in the Senior School Drama Studio.

Based on the 1998 novel by Louis Sachar, 'Holes' saw Transitus-S2 pupils tell the story of Stanley Yelnats, a boy who has bad luck due to a curse placed on his great-great grandfather. Stanley is sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention camp, for a crime he did not commit, and is forced by the Warden to dig large holes in the dirt every day alongside camp-mates Zero, Zig Zag, X-Ray, Armpit and Magnet. Stanley eventually realises that something is amiss and that the holes are being dug in the search for something...The play intertwines three stories from separate time periods to reveal why Stanley’s family has a curse and what it is that the Warden is looking for.

Along with a talented troupe of dancers and puppeteers, a number of the cast of Transitus, S1 and S2 pupils played multiple roles from the three time periods.

The show was directed by English and Drama teacher Mrs Alexis Viswanathan, with Music by Mrs Jane Tierney. The show would not have been possible without the support of a number of pupils and staff, from the choreographers, backstage crew and make up team to those who designed the set and created the costumes - All played their part in a hugely successful, fun-filled show.
