S2 Pupil wins Gold at British Cross Challenge

Second Year athlete Anya MacLean (pictured above, second from left) won team Gold in the British Athletics Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships at a mud-soaked Loughborough University on Saturday 10th March.

Running for the Scotland West team, Anya finished just outside of the medals in the U15 Girls' individual race, missing out on a Bronze medal by a mere six seconds. However her fourth place finish, alongside the strong performances of her Scotland West U15 counterparts, meant that the U15 side retained the UK title they won at last year's event.

The Scotland West team was represented by a further two High School runners - Fifth Year pupil Lorn Webster managed a 70th position finish from a field of over 280 athletes in the U17 Boys' event, thus securing a creditable ninth place finish from Scotland West, while Fergus Currie (S1) finished 115th from more than 300 athletes competing in the U13 Boys' race.

Anya, Lorn, Fergus and a number of other High School athletes will race again this coming Saturday at the rescheduled Scottish Schools Athletic Association Secondary Championships at Hopetoun House, Edinburgh.
