High School Charity Golf Day 2018

12 June 2018 | Tagged: Senior School, Sports, Competitions, Events

The third edition of the High School of Glasgow Charity Golf Day took place at a beautifully sunny Milngavie Golf Course on Friday 8th June, raising money for the High School of Glasgow Bursary Fund.

With the High School's very own Claret Jug to play for, competition on the day was fierce! However, with a number of competitions throughout the course, including closest-to-the-pin, longest drive and a hole-in-one challenge, there was a lot of fun to be had too. Unfortunately nobody was able to get that elusive hole-in-one on the 16th that would have seen them enjoy a free trip to the Moritz Brewery in Barcelona.

Congratulations go to the overall winning team The Jolly Green Giants, captained by the Chair of the Board of Governors, Brian Adair, playing alongside his son Scott Adair (current parent and former pupil), son-in-law Alan Foggo (former parent) and grandson Jack Adair (former pupil). They carded a record net score of 50.5, starting with an incredible 11 straight birdies, finishing with a gross score of 13 under par. I think it's safe to say that we now know who Thomas Bjorn's four 'Captain's Picks' will be for the European team at the 2018 Ryder Cup!

Once the on-course action had come to an end, participants enjoyed a dinner, raffle and charity auction. A variety of generously donated prizes were on offer, including four-ball rounds of golf at courses throughout the country and a match day experience for an Arsenal football game at the Emirates Stadium in London. Thanks go to former pupil Chris Massie for donating this wonderful prize.

Particular thanks go to Lord and Lady Macfarlane for their support and for providing the winning team prizes, the Adair Family for all their help in making sure the day ran smoothly, current parents Joe and Wendy Walsh and former pupil Stuart Laing from Laings Jewellers for providing the beautiful claret jug trophies and former pupils Duncan Frew, John Hannay and the staff of Badaboom for the complimentary on-course bar and for organising the hole-in-one competition prize. Thanks also to Capital Solutions and to current parent Andrew Thomson of Thompson Quarries for their support, as well as to all who kindly donated prizes for the raffle.

Thanks to everyone involved in the running of the day, as well as to those who so keenly participated, the day was a great success, with £5,885.05 raised for the School Bursary Fund.

The final leaderboard, and some images from a hugely enjoyable day, can be seen below.
