Gold Rush at Glasgow Badminton Event

High School badminton stars dominated at the Glasgow Schools' Championships at Bellahouston Academy this weekend, winning eight team and five individual medals throughout the day. 

Guan-An Chen (S6) and Rachel Sugden (S5) were the big winners of the day, each winning three Gold medals. As well as teaming together to win the U19 Mixed Doubles competition, Guan-An was crowned U19 Boys' Singles champion and also won the U19 Boys' Doubles with William Xu (S6), with Rachel winning the U19 Girls' Singles competition and the U19 Girls' Doubles with Sanaa Suvarna (S5).

There was also team success for Annabel Davies and Angelina Antomarlin (both S2) who won the U14 Girls' Doubles competition, and Lucy Sillars and Maxwell Wang (both S2) who won Gold in the U14 Mixed Doubles competition.

In two all-HSOG finals, Lucy Sillars had to settle for team Silver with her sister Emily (S5) in the aforementioned U19 Girls' Doubles, while Sanaa Suvarna won Silver in the U19 Girls' Singles event.

In team competition, there were also Silver medals won in the U19 Boys' Doubles by Varnit Gupta (S6) and Jay McMillan (S5), and the U14 Boys Doubles by Kenny McClymont and Maxwell Wang (both S2), while singles competition Silvers were won by Cameron Virdee (S4) in the U16 Boys' competition and Akshat Gupta (S1) in the U14 Boys' event.
