Rachel Sugden (S5) has picked up where she left off last session with further badminton success. She won the Ladies' Singles competition at the BABOLAT French U17 Invitational Tournament in Bordeaux in mid-August, without dropping a single set on her way to victory.

At the FZ Forza Irish U19 Open in Lisburn last weekend, Rachel and her partners reached the semi final and quarter finals of the Mixed and Ladies' Doubles competitions, as well as reaching the quarter final of the Ladies' Singles event.

Rachel has also been invited to play for the Scotland team at the U19 World Junior Championships in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in October.

Lucy Williamson (S5) and Georgia Crooks (S4) were selected for the Scotland Under 16 team to play in three matches against Ireland at Glasgow Green in July. The first match on the Friday was won 2-1 by the Scottish side, with Lucy scoring. The other two games over the weekend ended with a 0-0 draw and another victory, 2-0 this time, on the Sunday.

Along with Charlotte Simmers (S4), Georgia competed for the Caledonian Cougars U15 side at the Futures Cup in St Albans in late August where she was named as Scotland U15's Player of the Tournament. She also represented the Scotland U18 side in the UK School Games at Loughborough University at the beginning of September.

Meanwhile, former pupil Ellie Hutcheson (Class of 2015) played several matches for the Scotland Under 21 team this summer and was selected for the Scotland U21 team who travelled to Hradec Králové, Czech Republic, to compete in the EuroHockey Junior Championship II.

Alice Baxendale (S5) represented Scotland in Athletics at the event, finishing fourth in the girls' discus competition.

Lorn Webster (S5) won an individual Silver medal in the Boys' U17 race at the Scottish Athletics Trail Championships which took place in Srathmiglo, Fife on Saturday 2nd September. In the team event, Lorn and two other runners won team Gold for his running club, Garscube Harriers.

Two young triathletes competed for Scotland in the Inter Regional Championships at a scorching hot Mallory Park on Monday 28th August. In the Tri Star 2 Junior races, Fergus Currie of S1 competed exceptionally to finish in 9th position overall, while Coryn MacLean of Transitus was able to finish inside the top 30.

Commonwealth Youth Games & Junior Wimbledon

Finally, congratulations go to Hamish Stewart, who left the school this summer, and Anna Fleming (S6) who were part of Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas in July. Not only did they represent the team with pride, but they also brought home some medals!

Hamish was able to see off all comers to win Gold in the Mens' Singles competition, following hot off the heels of reaching the second round of Junior Wimbledon weeks earlier. Meanwhile, Anna was part of the 4x100m Freestyle team that won Bronze, as well as finishing 4th in the 50m Butterfly, 5th in the 100m Freestyle and reaching the final of the 100m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle competitions.

Hamish and Anna won 2 of Scotland's 21 medals, nearly a tenth of the overall haul! They helped Team Scotland finish fourth in the final medal table.
