Moore House Raise £3,100 for Frey Frey Charity
Moore House's Fundraising Week helped to raise more than £3,100 for a truly wonderful cause. Take a moment to read all about it, courtesy of Moore House Captains, James C and Erin M.
For Moore’s fundraising this year we decided to support Frey Frey’s, a charity focused on raising money and awareness for the rare Tay-Sachs disease. Tay-Sachs is a life-limiting condition that affects only 1 in 360,000 people. As it stands, there is no cure. However, Frey Frey’s is committed to genetic research to try and come up with one. We choose to fundraise for Frey Frey’s because of the strong links between the charity and a former PE teacher at the School, Mr Maclay, whose niece is also a current pupil in Transitus.
We began our fundraising week by opening our very own hot chocolate stand, which proved to be a great success and gave us lots of confidence heading into the rest of the week. Tuesday morning proved to be a little chilly for our SLT who spent their break time being soaked by pupils out for revenge! Later in the day we saw some of our Moore pupils humbled by the teachers in a rather rainy staff vs pupils hockey match, which ended 5-1. Wednesday saw us host another highly successful 'Moore Munch', with our bakers getting busy in the kitchen, enticing customers with their delicious sweet treats.
The Moore House Show saw four brave couples take to the stage to put their relationships to the test in HSOG’s ‘Mr and Mrs’. The show was presented by the amazing Mrs Walker, stepping in at the last second following some cancellations, yet still producing an immense performance, full of enthusiasm! Our 'Mr and Mrs' couples were probed over four rounds as we discovered who knows each other best, culminating in a final to crown the king and queen of the High School!
The week came to a climax with a number of our senior boys taking to the ring to showcase their wrestling abilities in a HSOG first - ‘Royal Rumble’! Closely supervised by referee Mr Gillies, our wrestlers battled it out in the hopes of becoming the “King of the Ring”. The Rumble proved to be the perfect way to end a highly successful week, with some murmurs of it being up there with one of the best house events of all time...
Throughout the week pupils were also able to donate towards our fundraising total and choose which member of SLT should serenade us into assembly at the end of the week! Mr Leighton topped the standings and so gave us his attempt at Dougie Maclean’s classic, 'Caledonia', which turned out to be a quite a tough listening experience for all!
We are proud to say we raised just over £3,100 for Frey Frey’s in a very successful week. It didn’t come without its challenges, as we quickly realised how much planning had to go into every individual event in order to ensure everything ran smoothly, including addressing even the most minor of details.
The highlight had to be the concluding act of the week - our 'Royal Rumble'. We can only thank all the Sixth Year wrestlers for just how much planning and preparation went into the event to make it as exciting as possible.
Finally, we would like to say a massive thank you to all who got involved to prepare everything and help us raise so much money for such a good cause. Also, a special thank you to Mr Leggat and Mrs Walker for their commitment and support throughout the week - we couldn’t have done it without them!
