Junior School Wins Scotland Category in National Social Impact Award

Junior School Wins Scotland Category in National Social Impact Award

We are delighted to announce that The High School of Glasgow Junior School has been named Scotland's winner in the SuperKind Social Impact Schools Award, achieving the highest action-to-student ratio in the country.

This prestigious recognition celebrates our school's commitment to social action and the positive difference our staff and pupils continue to make within their community.

Over 1,000 schools nationwide participated in the SuperKind Social Impact Schools Award programme this year, each committing to placing social action and charity work at the heart of their education. We are proud to say that our Junior School stood out for its exceptional dedication to community service.

During the academic year, our pupils, all the way from Junior 1 through to Junior 6, recorded an incredible total of 480 social actions, tackling issues including environmental conservation and elderly care initiatives.

These social actions included ‘March for Nepal’, which saw pupils clock up a collective 2,268 miles of sponsored walking to raise more than £4,000 in support of the rebuilding of Nepalese schools destroyed by earthquakes and flooding, and the delivery of harvest boxes filled with vital provisions for those in need within the local community.

Mrs Maggie Pollock, Head Teacher of the Junior School commented:

Community and compassion are at the heart of our school community, so working towards this award came naturally to us. We are really proud of all the children in our school and will continue to encourage them to think about how their actions impact on others, both near and far."

Keren Mitchell, co-founder of SuperKind, added:

We're thrilled to award The High School of Glasgow Junior School with SuperKind's Social Impact Schools Award, which recognises their outstanding efforts throughout the school year to carry out social actions close to their heart. We want schools to encourage children to see themselves as changemakers, no matter their age."

Our young people deserve immense credit for their continued commitment towards community involvement. This achievement demonstrates the ways in which the High School successfully balances academic excellence with meaningful community engagement, something at the very core of our school values.
