Clyde Against Cancer raises more than £2,000 for pair of incredible causes

Clyde House brought 2025 to an end with an unforgettable fundraising week, all in aid of two very worthy causes. Clyde House Captains Maya M and Cammy W share their reflections on an action-packed week as we approached the final few days of term...

This year, Clyde House were delighted to support two invaluable cancer charities. Cancer has hugely affected many people within our community and has shown us the extent to which these charities transform the experience of patients and their families. We are extremely grateful to all who got behind ‘Clyde Against Cancer’!

We split the money between Teenage Cancer Trust and Lymphoma Australia, two charities which mean a lot to our Sixth Year in particular. During our fundraising assembly, Lucy H and Cammy W had the courage to share their personal experiences. Cammy, one of our Clyde House Captains, spoke about his sister’s story while Lucy told us of her close friend back home in Australia. Their stories made us realise how cancer impacts people across the globe, putting the importance of the work these charities do into perspective.

Our week kicked off with 'Carpool Karaoke', giving pupils the chance to sing their heart out during break time. This got us in the festive spirit and ready for an exciting week!

We then brought back a crowd favourite, the Clyde Carnival. This year, we brought in some brand new activities, ranging from a golfing long drive competition to a Clash Royale tournament. In the name of Lymphoma Australia, we gave everyone the chance to experience life down under by challenging people to attempt to balance on our surf simulator! The next day, some of us were definitely craving the Aussie sun. At the traditional ‘Soak the Sixth Years,’ our most daring S6 Clydies allowed other pupils to drench them in icy water… a huge sacrifice, not least on a chilly December morning!

Later on, pupils and teachers kitted up to take part in the ultimate competition - our staff vs pupils hockey match. In the name of charity, we let the staff win…

On Wednesday, the Clyde Café was back and busier than ever. Clydies from all year groups baked a variety of sweet treats, giving everyone a much-needed sugar rush halfway through the week. At lunchtime, we hosted a Christmas quiz to get us in the holiday mood, featuring some very entertaining pictures of our staff members during their childhood Christmases!

On Thursday, the 1st XV traded their scrums for screams! After much persuasion, the bravest (and hairiest) of them agreed to be waxed, providing us with some priceless and unforgettable reactions!

Whispers were building in the corridors in the lead up to our very special episode of 'Teacher Traitors'. This featured deadly duos - Mr Lockyer and Mrs Owen, as well as Mr Hutchison and Mrs Clark, dramatic deaths (sorry, Mr Ford) and some downright dreadful jokes from all involved. Mrs MacCorquodale emerged victorious in the end - we’re expecting the BAFTA nomination any time now! A special thanks goes to our very own Claudia Winkleman, Mr Campbell, who gave up his eyesight in order to commit to the role. The fringe will be missed!

For the Clyde House Show, we hosted an epic game of Family Feud. Earlier in the week, the entire school answered questions about the High School, such as "which teacher is most likely to forget they had a class?" It was then up to our contestants to guess what the most popular answers were. This was a fantastic way to end the week, especially since the pupil team came out on top!

...

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who got involved and contributed to Clyde House Fundraising Week. We managed to raise over £2,000, which will significantly help to support cancer patients and their families. Thank you all for supporting ‘Clyde against Cancer’!
