Digital Learning

The effective use of digital technology is increasingly integral to both the teaching process and the learning outcomes of our young people.

Every High School of Glasgow pupil has access to a range of digital technology, both inside and outside the classroom.

From Junior 1, pupils are allocated their own iPad for use during lessons, for homework and to increase their knowledge outside of formal teaching time.

All of our teachers have access to, and training in the use of innovative digital technologies that continuously develop and enhance how we teach our children. Our classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art interactive boards, allowing for immersive teaching through touchscreen technology, screen-sharing from iPads and online learning activities and games, as well as the ability to access and display resources that strengthen the learning process.

Both our Junior and Senior Schools have dedicated IT suites housing iMacs and PCs, with a number of computer clusters located throughout that provide cutting edge facilities for our young learners. Our pupils adopt the full range of apps and multimedia tools to aid their learning experience and keep them ahead of the curve, confidently preparing them for a continuously evolving digital world.

In early 2021, both our Junior and Senior Schools received the Digital Schools Scotland Award, an acknowledgement of the important work that has gone into incorporating digital skills into our curriculum.

As part of our digital expansion programme, Junior School pupils get involved in our Digi-Leads Committee, encouraging them to be lead-learners in this area of the curriculum and helping the school to remain at the forefront of digital education. Our Digi-Leads Committee enjoy regular visits to the Apple Store in Glasgow for training on the latest updates in technology.

By using technology within lessons, our pupils are actively encouraged to embrace independent thinking, and to let their sense of creativity and innovation flourish. Our integration of digital technology was critical during the recent COVID-19 pandemic, with teachers able to seamlessly continue daily lessons via video conferencing, set and submit home-learning tasks online, host live assemblies and continue with regular communication to pupils and families.
