Everything You Need to Know About After School Care
Most parents live busy lives, often juggling work, childcare, and the demands of being a parent, which can sometimes make the school run a challenge! However, there are after school care facilities available to ensure your child is cared for during this time.
This article will explain what after school care services are and how you can utilise them.
What is After School Care?
After School care (or Out of School Care) is exactly what it sounds like – childcare which is provided after school hours. At The High School of Glasgow Junior School, we offer flexible weekday childcare options during term time, from 3.05pm until 6.00pm, known as the High Flyers’ Club.
Parents will use after school care for their children if they are busy, usually with work or necessary appointments. With the school day ending around 3pm and the standard workday ending around 5pm, 6pm or later, some parents, understandably struggle to make the school run on time.
Fortunately, there are a number of options available through after school care that will ensure your child receives the care they need whilst they wait on your arrival.
After School Care at The High School of Glasgow Junior School
The High School of Glasgow Junior School understands that not all parents can make it to pick up their children at the end of the school day which is why we’re dedicated to providing a high-quality after school care experience.
Below, are some of the options available for your child if you require childcare beyond the end of the school day.
The High Flyers’ Club
If you need a little extra help between 3:05pm and 6pm, our High Flyers’ Club is the perfect place for your child to spend time before you pick them up. Our club provides flexible childcare for pupils from Junior 1 to Junior 6.
The out of school care club provides interactive activities that your child can engage with whilst being overseen by our professional and passionate support teachers. Children are also offered a healthy snack to fuel them after school.
Your children will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities, including:
· Ball games
· Hopscotch
· Skipping
· Baking
· Clay Modelling
· Imaginative Play
· And much more
The High Flyers’ Club is also a great place for them to catch up with homework and make use of our library corner that lets children dive into different books and genres to expand their minds.
Our High Flyers’ Club is split into two sessions: session one and session two. Session one runs from 3:05pm to 4:30pm and session two runs from 4:30pm to 6pm. Both cost £8.75 for a regular booking, £9.75 for a flexible booking, and there is a £2.50 late or on-the-day booking fee.
In order to make use of the High Flyers’ Club, you’ll need to register. You can do this by completing a registration form and a regular/flexible booking form. You’ll also need to fill out a Nominated Persons Collection form. All of these documents can be found via our Parent Portal.

Summer in the City
As well as after school care, there are also out of school activities your child can do during the day in the school holidays. This is through an initiative called ‘Summer in the City’, which is an organisation that runs clubs and activities at our Senior School campus in Old Anniesland.
You can enquire with them directly on their website to learn more
Alternative Forms of After School Care
As well as our dedicated after school care, your child can also make use of after school clubs like chess in order to learn a new skill and continue to interact with their peers. Alternatively, they could also take up an instrument, which has a number of benefits to their academic achievement and wider personal growth.
