Bursaries
When The High School of Glasgow became an independent school in 1976, the Governors were determined to provide the means for as many pupils of ability as possible to attend, regardless of their family's financial circumstances.
The High School of Glasgow Educational Trust was created with the intention of providing bursaries to support school fee payments.
In the Bursary Fund's inaugural year, 8 pupils received a small level of bursary support. More than 40 years later, during the 2021/22 session, The High School of Glasgow supported 71 pupils, with bursaries ranging from 5% to 100%. 17 pupils received the complete 100% bursary, exemplifying our commitment to ensuring that children of talent and commitment can aspire to be the very best, regardless of their financial situation.
Who Can Receive a Bursary?
Our Bursary Fund provides assistance with fees in cases of need.
Parents can apply for a bursary for their child whilst completing the application process.
Pupils already attending the School are also eligible for bursaries when a degree of financial need has arisen. Bursaries are, however, only available at our Senior School, from Transitus (Primary 7 year) through to S6.
Bursaries will usually continue throughout a child's time at the Senior School. However, the continuation of the award will be dependent on satisfactory standards of academic achievement, behaviour and continuing financial need.

Applying For a Bursary
When completing the application process, parents can indicate if they wish to apply for a 'Means-Tested Bursary Award'.
Pupils sit an entrance examination in late January. At this time, parents will be asked to complete a confidential declaration of their financial circumstances in support of their application.
The Bursary Award Committee, who are independent of the Rector, will then make their assessment of the appropriate level of bursary assistance. Bursary applicants are notified of the value of the bursary only when a formal offer of a place is made.
The School respects the confidentiality of bursary families. There will be no public announcement of the awards of bursaries and no distinction will be made between the holders of bursaries and full fee-paying pupils.
The Bursary Fund gave me the opportunity to attend The High School of Glasgow and benefit from the invaluable all round education it provides. My years at the School afforded me such a wide variety of experiences. In addition to an excellent academic education, I was able to play rugby for the 1st XV, perform as Elvis on stage, travel across the world and make lifelong friends.
All of this was made possible by the bursary fund and the charitable donations of others; for this I am eternally grateful. I am extremely proud to call myself a former pupil of The High School of Glasgow and I hope that many more youngsters have the opportunity to flourish in the future.
