All you need to know about our Kindergarten.

Working with both the children and their families, our team ensure that every child reaches their full potential.

Our teachers and Early Years practitioners make use of high-quality observations and their daily interaction with children in order to make accurate judgements about their emotional and academic progress.

Daily communication is delivered via the SeeSaw App, allowing families to keep track of their child's developmental progress in their individual learning journal and get a feel for the fun they are experiencing each and every day!

What You Need To Know

Opening Times and Sessions

Our Kindergarten operates during term time, offering early learning and childcare between the hours of 8:45am - 3:10pm.

The following sessions are available:

Morning	8:45 - 11:55am (doors open from 11:45am for collection)
Afternoon	11:55am - 3:10pm (doors open from 3:00pm for collection)
Full Day	8:45am - 3:10pm (doors open from 3:00pm for collection)

Please Note: In order to ensure continuity for children, Kindergarten 1 (3 year old) children are required to attend a minimum of four sessions per week, and Kindergarten 2 (pre-school) children are required to attend a minimum of five sessions per week.

Wraparound Care

Wraparound Care operates each day during school term time, between the hours of 7:45 - 8:45am and 3:10 - 6:00pm.

Parents can purchase these additional hours to meet the needs and demands of family life.

The following Wraparound Care sessions are available:

Partnership Funding

Our Kindergarten works in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council.

As funded partners we will deliver 1140 funded hours during our core hours of 8:45am - 3:10pm, in accordance with the Scottish Government Blueprint for 2020.

Outwith the 1140 funded hours, we offer additional paid-for hours, including our Wraparound Care service.

Parents may apply for their funded hours from East Dunbartonshire Council only once their child has been offered a place in either Kindergarten 1 or Kindergarten 2. Applicants should apply via East Dunbartonshire Council's online application form. Applicants who live outwith East Dunbartonshire Council may also apply for funding via this same online process.

On confirmation of funding being allocated for a child’s place in Kindergarten, this will remain in place for the full period of attendance within our Kindergarten setting.

Snack and Lunch

Every part of every day is filled with learning experiences and opportunities for children in our care.

All children who access our partnership funding provision are entitled to a funded meal or healthy snack, provided during their session(s). Parents may opt to order a hot lunch (which are ordered at the beginning of each week) or alternatively provide children with a packed lunch.

During snack break and at lunch time we aim to create a home-from-home environment. Our children are encouraged to choose and prepare their own snacks, safely developing skills such as pouring, cutting and spreading. Whilst eating their food, children have time to talk with their peers, developing their social skills, garnering new relationships and allowing friendships to thrive.

Transport

We are located in the heart of Bearsden on Ledcameroch Road, a 5 minute walk from Bearsden railway station and just off of Drymen Road, with its multiple bus routes.

Parking is available on Ledcameroch Road and the adjacent Ledcameroch Crescent to help with daily drop-offs and pick-ups.

Our Kindergarten is located within a residential area. Therefore, in order to prevent driveways and junctions from being blocked by traffic, and to encourage a more eco-friendly way of living, we encourage families who live locally to either walk or cycle to and from Kindergarten. We have secure bike storage available on site, keeping your mode of transport safe until home time!

From what age can my child start attending Kindergarten?

What is the difference between Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2?

Do Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 children play together?

Yes.

All of our children follow the Early Level of Curriculum for Excellence which has been designed for children in pre-school years and into Junior 1 (and perhaps later, for some). We place importance on recognising each child as an individual, focusing on their age and stage of learning, alongside ensuring we provide developmentally appropriate opportunities and experiences in order to nurture and enhance their knowledge and skills.

We have plans in place to provide pre-school children with a number of unique experiences including forest learning, specialist teachers in Drama, Music and Physical Education, attendance at Junior School assemblies and events, and a dedicated programme for the process of transition to Junior 1.

Does my child need to attend Kindergarten every day?

No.

For families who do not wish full day provision, they may access morning or afternoon sessions only, or, if preferred, a combination of sessions across the week. There is no requirement to access the full 1140 hours.

However, we do require that, across a single week, parents select a minimum of four sessions for Kindergarten 1 children (eg. two mornings and two afternoons) and a minimum of five sessions for Kindergarten 2 children (eg. three mornings and two afternoons).

These minimum number of sessions for children ensure their continuity of care within our Kindergarten setting.

Is food included within the funding?

Will my child automatically gain entry to Junior 1 year at the High School of Glasgow?

We would expect that most children will be able to transition from our Kindergarten setting to Junior 1.

The potential transition from Kindergarten to Junior 1 would happen in close consultation with parents to ensure that we are able to get it right for each child in our care.

Our specialist Early Years team work closely with parents during their child's time in our care. With continual assessment and monitoring from our team, discussions then take place to ensure that parents are aware of their child's progress and if our team would have any concerns about the transition to our Junior School setting.
