Tour The High School

Visit The High School

We are one of Scotland’s top independent schools, combining outstanding exam success with a rich programme of opportunities beyond the classroom. Join us for a tour to experience what we have to offer.

High Five!

Our top 5 reasons to choose The High School of Glasgow.

Exceptional Academic Results

We are sector-leading in exam performances, with 86% A grades at National 5, 72% A grades at Higher and 62% A grades at Advanced Higher. Pupils joining us in Junior 1 have a one-in-two chance of achieving five As at Higher, compared to 1 in 20 pupils achieving this nationally. With a perfect track record for Medicine and Law offers at the University of Edinburgh, strong representation at Oxbridge and 70% of last year's leavers joining Russell Group universities and the University of St Andrews, we prepare our pupils for the very best universities.

World-Class Facilities & Innovation

Our campus combines heritage with cutting-edge resources. From advanced science laboratories in the John Shaw Science Wing to our professional-standard drama theatre, indoor greenhouse and our extensive on-site sports facilities, every space is designed to inspire. Every pupil receives an iPad as part of their fees and we pioneer AI-enhanced learning while maintaining rigorous academic standards.

Thriving Arts & Music Programme

Half of our pupils play an instrument, with many pursuing this to the dizzying heights of grade 8 standard - our tutors really get a tune out of our young musicians! With strong links to the National Youth Orchestras and Choirs of Scotland, an award-winning pipe band and regular concerts within Glasgow Cathedral, musical excellence is woven into life at the High School. Drama, debating and numerous clubs and societies ensure every talent finds expression.

Sport at the Highest Level

Sport is a hallmark of the School, with all pupils getting involved in Saturday morning fixtures and many representing Scotland at various age-grade levels. We have national champions on the athletics tracks, in the swimming pool and on BMX courses. Our 20 acres of outstanding on-site sporting facilities include multiple rugby pitches, water-based hockey pitches, tennis courts and athletics facilities, meaning every child develops fitness, teamwork and competitive spirit in a supportive environment.

A Community Where Every Child Matters

From synthetic phonics in the Junior School to personalised learning pathways and opportunities to see the world via exciting trips to France, China and beyond, we know and nurture each individual. Whether a pupil is aiming for Oxbridge or exploring new interests, they are supported, challenged and valued every step of the way.

What Parents Say

A group of young students, dressed in school uniforms, are singing or performing together on a stage or in a performance setting.

HSOG offers opportunities I could only have dreamed of at school – from music in the Cathedral to representing Scotland in sport."

A group of students wearing checkered aprons and hats are gathered around a table, smiling and engaged in what appears to be a cooking or food preparation activity in a classroom setting.

The academic results speak for themselves, but it's the care and attention my child receives every day that makes the biggest difference."

A young woman in a laboratory setting, wearing safety goggles, is enthusiastically examining colorful glassware filled with liquids.

What impresses me most is how every pupil is known and supported, whether they are aiming for Oxbridge or discovering a new interest."

The image shows a group of young students wearing virtual reality headsets, appearing to be engaged in an interactive learning or gaming experience in a classroom setting.

The facilities are exceptional, but the real strength of the school is the community spirit."
