S2 pupil Tabitha Steven achieved national success in the Rotary Young Chef Scottish Regional Final at Dundee College last weekend.
Tabitha prepared and cooked the same three course menu that saw her reach this stage, having taken on the feedback from judges in the regional final - a starter of Jerusalem artichoke soup with saffron and thyme, a main course of sea bass served with 'courgetti', bound with a tomato pesto sauce and garnished with basil oil, and a dessert of vanilla panna cotta served with rhubarb compote and baked crumble.
This time around, the judges praised her for her perfect seasoning, with her soup starter particularly praised for its "perfect execution."
The eight competitors were all complimented by the judges but Tabitha came through as the overall winner. This was particularly noteworthy given it was an 'open' competition, with competitors of any school age able to take part, and many were a few years Tabitha's senior.
Tabitha will now go forward to represent Scotland in the National Final of the Rotary Young Chef Competition at Lincoln College on Saturday 13th May 2017. She will be one of only eight finalists from an initial 5,000 competitors.
