Glasgow Music Festival 2017

As ever, High School musicians were widely represented in competitions at the Glasgow Music Festival, with some impressive successes.

Duncan Fraser (S6) achieved success in multiple competitions - 1st Place in the Modern Woodwind and Brass Solos, 2nd Place in Open Chamber Music and 3rd Place in Open Woodwind and Brass. Meanwhile, younger sister, Ella Fraser (S4), achieved a 1st Place in the Unaccompanied Bach competition, as well as a 2nd Place in Open Concerto Class & Violin Solos.

Christopher O'Leary (S6) achieved 2nd places in Songs from the Shows (17 & 18 years) and Open Brass Solo Class, and 3rd places in 18 and Under Vocal Duets (with former High School pupil Kirsty Stirling), Male Voice Solos (18 and Under), Art Song (18 and Under) and Woodwind and Brass Concerto.

Amy Ashton (Trans) picked up a 2nd Place finish in Non-Traditional Clarsach and a 3rd Place finish in Intermediate Clarsach, while Zixuan Yao (Trans) won 2nd Place awards in Unaccompanied Bach and in Violin Duets A, alongside fellow Transitus pupil Polly Quaile.

There were also 1st Place finishes for:

  • Màiri Callan (S5) - Clarsach Solo;
  • Sam Greene (S4) - Jazz Piano;
  • Duniya Majumder (S3) - Piano Solos A;
  • Tanvi Mantry (S1) - Classical Solo;
  • Kirsty Chalmers (Trans) - Beginners Clarsach;
  • Eva Shepherd (Trans) - Viola Solos D.

2nd Place finishes for:

  • Rebecca McInnes (S5) - Theatrical Solo;
  • Sebastian Schneeberger (S4) - U18 Male Voice;
  • Maryam Khan & Lois McColl (both S3) - Intermediate Duet;
  • Catriona Gallagher (S1) - Songs from the Shows;
  • Shreya Marshall (S1) - Classical Solo;
  • Christina Brincat (Trans) - Intermediate Clarsach;
  • Maya Marshall & Nimrita Samra (tied) (both J4) - Beginners Clarsach.

and 3rd Place finishes for:

  • Shannon McNulty (S4) - Opera Solo;
  • Louise Dickson (Trans) - Violin Solos F;
  • Alexa Marshall (J6) - Beginners Clarsach.
